Can I use this instead of ForeFlight?
For pre-flight weather, airspace and NOTAMs, yes. For anything a certified electronic flight bag does — approach-certified navigation, synthetic vision, in-flight ADS-B traffic — no, and Threshold does not claim otherwise.
It is a supplemental situational awareness tool. Plenty of pilots will want both; plenty of others only ever needed the data.
Is it legal for flight planning?
Threshold is not an approved source of aeronautical information and does not satisfy any regulatory requirement for a preflight briefing or current charts. Use it alongside official sources, not instead of them. You are the pilot in command.
Where does the data come from?
Weather from the NOAA Aviation Weather Center. Charts, airports, airspace, navaids, terminal procedures and NOTAMs from the FAA. Radar from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet at Iowa State University. Magnetic variation from the World Magnetic Model 2025.

Does it work without a signal?
Partly, and honestly: US airspace, airports, navaids and waypoints are stored on your device and work with no connection at all. Chart tiles work offline for regions you have downloaded.
Weather and NOTAMs are live data — no signal means no update, and the app tells you rather than showing stale information as though it were current.
How current are the charts and airspace?
Airspace and navigation data follow the FAA's 28-day cycle and refresh automatically without an App Store update. Sectionals revise on their own schedule and are fetched from the FAA as you use them.
Approach plates show a loud banner when they are expired or not yet effective. Expired plates are deliberately kept rather than deleted — an old chart you know is old beats a missing one.
Does it work outside the United States?
Weather and NOTAMs, yes — 9,872 stations across 239 countries, including US military aerodromes overseas.
Charts, airport data, navaids, approach plates and radar are US only. Outside the US you get worldwide weather and NOTAMs on a plain base map. European VFR charts are next. See Worldwide for specifics.
What data do you collect about me?
None. There is no account, no analytics and no advertising identifier. Location is used on your device to centre the map and find nearby airports, and is not transmitted or stored. The Privacy Policy says the same thing at greater length.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Threshold is iPhone and iPad only. Android is a real possibility but nothing is scheduled, and it would be a rewrite rather than a port.
How do I cancel?
Through your Apple ID subscription settings, like any App Store subscription. Cancel before the 30-day trial ends and you are not charged. Nothing to email anyone about.
Who builds this?
Pollard Labs LLC, an Alabama company. Threshold is built by an active Army aviator — which is why the overseas and military coverage exists at all. See About.
